Bullion Coins
Investing in silver and gold bullion coins is often the initial way that investors can start diversifying their savings portfolio. Bullion produced coins are more readily available than pre-owned coin editions, foreign or collectable coins and are a cheap way to own silver and gold. Differing from standard coins that may have been issued as general collectables or coins that have attained a rare status (such as a Victoria Half Sovereign), bullion coins are brand new, mint-condition coins. Usually produced specifically as a way of investing in gold, coins sold by Physical Gold Limited are issued by the Royal Mint and offer a low cost option for building a gold holding. Available in gold or silver, some bullion coins are UK VAT-free whilst others offer the advantage of being exempt from Capital Gains Taxation (CGT). Physical Gold Limited offers a tax-efficient range of gold bullion coins that can be delivered swiftly, securely and fully-insured to your door.
Delivery of your metals are fully insured and discreet. If you want the peace of mind of storage, then you metals will be insured, allocated and segregated in an LBMA approved depository.

More information
Unlike gold or silver bars, bullion minted coins offer a greater diversity of denominations and can be purchased at a relatively low cost and liquidated easily should the need arise. With products like our Monthly Saver where you can invest in small monthly sums and have coins delivered directly to your door, you can take advantage of the high availability of silver and gold bullion coins and build your portfolio of physical precious metals.
In contrast to pre-owned coins, silver and gold coins are supplied in mint condition, from the Royal Mint and, if stored securely and kept free from any harmful chemicals or physical damage, can retain their maximum value for longer. Your investment purchases can either be stored in our own LBMA facilities (subject to minimum storage quantities) or delivered directly to your door for personal storage in your own bank, vault or domestic facility. For small investments, we can offer security accessories to help keep your valuables safe. You can find these in our online shop along with coin capsules and presentation cases for additional safekeeping.
The value of all gold bullion coins can fluctuate based on market rates at any time but older coins can be more susceptible to these variations. In addition, collectable coins and rare coins attract premiums due to their scarcity whereas bullion investment coins do not.
Royal Mint coins come in a range of different face values, special editions and weights. One of the most popular and bestselling coins is the Royal Mint’s flagship 22 carat Sovereign. Dating back over 500 years to 1489 the Sovereign is held as a trusted standard for investors, holding and appreciating in value as well as being an iconic series of coins for serious collectors.
The history of the Royal Mint dates back over 1000 years and is one of the world’s oldest organisations. It is also one of the most trustworthy sources of gold bullion coins with a reputation for quality and integrity.
Variety, choice and portfolio diversity
Choose from a variety of designs and include the bestselling gold Britannia, The Queen’s Beast series as well as the popular Lunar series; the latter celebrating the Chinese calendar with a series of animal designs by British Chinese printmaker and artist Wuon-Gean Ho.Bestselling Gold Britannia
Since 2013, the Gold Britannia was produced in 24 carats (previously being a 22-carat design) and is also a best seller. Having a millesimal fineness of 0.9999, it appeals to the Asian markets who prefer it over the 22 carat Sovereign. The UK markets are also fond of this series of gold bullion coin as any profits made on the sale of each piece are exempt from CGT. Containing 1oz of pure gold, the original Gold Britannia was produced in 1987 and was modelled on the South African Krugerrand. Due to its large size, it is a cheaper option than an equivalent 1oz gold bar and can be easier to sell due to the increased demand. The choice of coins available offers investors the chance to diversify their portfolio with varying levels of risk and exposure to the precious metals and collectables market. In addition to silver and gold bars, coins can provide a hedge to paper assets and provide a good mix of assets to supplement or replace traditional investments including ISAs and pensions. You can find out more about how physical gold can be used for pension investments here.
Standard issue gold bullion coins can be easily sourced and purchased at a low starting price point making them an ideal opportunity for first time investors to kick-start their physical gold portfolio. However, these coins can also be in limited supply with exceptional demand and boost the price far beyond the face value of £100. One such coin is the Dragon 1oz coin from the Queen’s Beast Royal Mint series. One of a series of ten reimagined designs of the heraldic beasts that guarded the Queen’s coronation in 1953, the Dragon is priced at around £1000. Complete sets will no doubt command more and, as well as other coins to diversify your portfolio, offer a great way to invest in physical gold.
