2021 Silver Britannia
This is a brand new silver bullion coin from The Royal Mint. Minimum order quantity is five coins, with multiples of 25 coming in Royal Mint tubes, and quantities of 500 packaged into monster boxes, consisting of 20 tubes. These boxes provide an excellent storage solution for stacking larger investments of silver coins.
Silver purity is 999.0 fineness, with each coin containing 1 Troy oz of silver. Like previous silver Britannias, this new 2021 version benefits from a £2 face value, qualifying the coin as legal tender. All UK legal tender coins are Capital Gains tax-free for UK residents, deeming any profits made upon sale as tax-free.
Britannia Reverse
Whilst still keeping with the same Philip Nathan design as previous years, the figure of the Britannia (a female warrior) against a gale, the new 2021 coin has several new hi-tech features making it the most secure and visually impressive coin in British history.
Some of the hi-tech features of these coins are;
Hologram Effect
The addition of a hologram effect on the navel trident. When the coin is angled, the trident in the small circular image changes to a padlock. The Royal Mint clearly wanted to emphasize the security of the new coin.
Animated waves
There is the appearance of movement in the new animated background waves when the light catches the coin.
Shield detailing
Increased detail on the Britannia’s shield, representing patten and colour
Micro text
Finally, the addition of micro text on the inner ring of the coin unveils the Latin words DECUS ET TUTAMEN, translated as ‘An ornament and safeguard’
Britannia Obverse
The image remains unchanged from designer Jody Clark’s well-recognized portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The image is of the Queen aged 88 wearing King George IV State Diadem. The crown was made in 1820, now only worn for the opening of Parliament and coronation processions. The abbreviated Latin wording around the edge reads D G REG F D, meaning By the Grace of GOD, Queen and Defender of Faith.
