The first coin issued in 2014 celebrated the year of the horse and features a unique and beautifully engraved design created by Chinese artist Wuon Gean Ho. If you study the coin carefully you will notice that the horse depicted in the image is actually standing on the famous chalk carving of the Uffington Horse in Oxfordshire. It is this clever combination of Chinese culture and Britishness that makes these coins so special and one of the reasons they are so highly sought after by collectors. Wuon Gean Ho has gone on to create all of the coins subsequent designs including the year of the sheep coin, the year of the monkey and the year of the rooster. 2018’s coin celebrates the year of the dog and once again features a striking design created by Wuon Gean Ho. The obverse side of the coin depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Jody Clarke of the Royal Mint.
