2019 Welcome Stranger Silver 1oz Coin

These 1oz silver bullion coins have been produced by Australia’s renowned Perth Mint to mark the 150th anniversary of the unearthing of the famous gold Welcome Stranger Nugget. This was the largest gold nugget of its kind ever to be discovered, found in 1869 in Moliagul, Victoria by John Deason & Richard Oates.

Each coin is struck to the highest purity of 999.9 and contain 1 Troy ounce of silver. They have a face value of 1 AUD and come individually in plastic capsules, in foil wraps of 20 denominations, or boxes of 100 coins.

Coin design

The familiar obverse of the coin features Jody Clark’s design of Queen Elizabeth II, the same image shared with all of Perth Mint’s bullion coins. Writing around the edge of the portrait states ‘ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA’, while the denomination of 1 Dollar is stated at the bottom.

The reverse of the silver coin distinguishes from others, with its depiction of the famous giant gold nugget.The image sits on a radial background innner circle with the outer gloss edging stating the coin details. ‘AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’ above the nugget image, with the year of production, weight, purity and metal below.
